Do you like Asian cuisine? If you answered yes, write this name down: Tuk Tuk. There are locations throughout the city – near Bilbao, Bernabéu, Chueca and Goya – AND they have delivery through Deliveroo! (We’ve tried it and the food is just as good at home).
We love the idea; there is so much variety. It’s Asian street food, mostly inspired by dishes from Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. The ambiance is light-hearted and fun; each location has its own style. Some are bigger, some are smaller, but they all the same street food vibe perfect for getting together with a good group of friends that love to try new things (and a lot of them at that). So, that’s what we did! We tried half the menu and believe us, with a menu this big, it was no small feat.
The menu is divided into rice bowls, salads, soups, noodle soups, curries and meats. The dishes are all described in detailed Spanish and English (extra Fooding points since it’s obviously important to us!).
What we tried:
Sexy Sio Bao
We started with a bao. Yes, we know, it’s trendy (before it was the burger and now it’s the bao, right?) but we try everything; we love to compare and give our opinion!
This is the only bao on the menu. It’s filled with succulent pulled pork (yum), hoisin sauce, Japanese mayo, mint, cilantro, basil and pickled red onion.
It’s cut in half, it’s super delicious and it’s a tad messy. But who cares? Eating with our hands is one of things we love best! Total Fooding experience.
These wheat noodles come topped with red peppers, bok choy, shallots and sweet soy sauce. They’re served with a lime in case you want to squeeze some on top. We did! And we liked it just as well with as without.
No lo sé
We don’t exactly understand why this plate is called ‘I don’t know’ (ironic, isn’t it?) but we are madly in love with this Bangkok-inspired dish. We love curry and this curry was ah-ma-zing.
It has beef, coconut milk, curry, palm sugar, turmeric, chillies, coriander and peanuts. We would definitely order this one again. But be careful! It’s spicy.
Nasi Goreng is sautéed vegetables in a sweet soy sauce on top of a bed of fried rice, served with a fried egg. It was good and flavourful, but not our favourite.
Now the one you’ve been waiting for: the Pad Thai. It’s the typical mix of rice noodles, tofu, bean spouts, egg, red onion, tamarind and peanuts. You can substitute the tofu for shrimp or chicken if you please.
What can we say? It didn’t disappoint! If you’re looking for a delicious Pad Thai, Tuk Tuk won’t let you down.
This is the definition of upscale street food. Fooding Madrid totally recommends this as an appetizer.
Chicken skewers marinated in turmeric, ginger and coconut milk before being served with a peanut sauce. A mouthwatering mix ending in a sweet note.
The menu describes the Babi Ketjap as: “Roasted pork marinated with special South East Asian spices giving it a sweet and tangy taste and a caramelised coating”.
We’ll agree and only add that because these strips of pork were so flavourful they should be enjoyed before the spicy curries.
Gaeng Keaw Wa
Curry time! We already declared our undying love for curry, right? Okay, then we won’t repeat ourselves.
Or maybe we will: WE LOVE CURRY.
The question is: to red or to green?
They’re both cooked Thai style and have essentially the same ingredients: chillies, basil, eggplant, coriander, palm sugar and coconut milk. Then, there’s beef or tofu. We chose one of each to try and decided that we prefer the beef but there was much less of a consensus on which one was spicier.
