12. Thanksgiving at home!

This year, for Canadian Thanksgiving (in October), we decided to have everyone over for dinner. We were able to find all the ingredients (including a 25-pound turkey!) with a little research.

Our turkey came from Hermanos Gomez Pollería Selecta in the Chamartin market (it came out to around 7€/kilo – about 70 euros – and comfortably fed 20 people with leftovers), but we also found some smaller ones at El Sabroso in Chamberí. Both places required calling ahead to order the bird and pick it up later.

Most of the other ingredients for our meals came from our local grocery store but we had to make a special trip to Taste of America to find: turkey gravy, cranberry sauce and pumpkin puree to make our pie. We also saw stuffing but decided to make our own.

We picked up pecans for this incredible sweet potato recipe at one of the Hermanos Ortiz Sanz potato chip shops in Argüelles. All in all, a delicious night!
